WHO KNEW?!?!

AHHHH!
Rooms are booking up!!
So, there is a car race at Limerock Race Track - some 5 day long bike race and A parents weekend for a camp nearby!!!! WHO KNEW?!?!

Almost all of the places that we had recommenced as places to stay are completely booked up; however not too far away is a great Quality Inn and Suites.

Don't forget- there is always Interlaken, however we know not everyone can afford to stay there.

I spoke to a woman there, Jane Libbey, and she is going to be blocking off rooms for our weekend.  Had we known there was so much going on in the community we have gone this route already!

This hotel has an indoor pool, exercise room, internet, a restaurant and bar on site and their staff seemed very competent and friendly.  She's happy to help out.
The Quality Inn & Suites are about 27 miles from the Inn, and with the windy roads of Litchfield County it takes about double that in time to get to the Inn, so if you want to reserve a room here just know that it's about 45 minutes to Interlaken.

Here's a map: Quality Inn & Suites to Interlaken

Good luck!

Food, Glorious food!

We went, we ate, we left happy and full.

Kate here-
Scott and I went for our food tasting at Interlaken last weekend and had a really great time.  The food was beautifully prepared, the presentation was fantastic but most importantly we were so pleased with the taste!  Of everything!
The wines they served for us were complimentary to all the food, however we're not telling you what the food or wine is going to be - something needs to be a surprise.
I will say- in general terms, there will a choice of poultry, beef or fish entrees.  For those of you who prefer veggies, not a problem.  Just shoot me an email or call me and we'll be happy to have a vegetable lovers entree for you.

As for kids, there is a kids meal available it is comprised of the two sides we chose (a fresh vegetable dish and a fingerling potato dish) as well as some sort of variety of chicken fingers and mac-n-cheese.  Mary D - if you want the chickne fingers we can make that happen just for you!
There will be a place on the RSVP if you want to select a kids meal for those under 12, or if you're Mary Disbrow.

And don't forget about the bonfire the night before the wedding!
There will hot cocoa, s'mores, and beer for those interested...

The location is across the street from the Inn itself, down a long path/driveway to where the pond, kyacks and other boats are, the bonfire site AND where the wedding ceremony will be held, sans rain that it.
If it rains there is a back-up plan, there is a very nice room that has a large picture window for the ceremony but hopefully we won't have to use it.
Also- should it rain the night of the bonfire we would move the festivities to the lounge area that is on site just near where the reception will be held.

I suppose that's all for now.
Remember to book your rooms!!
Have a great day - 'til later....

This and That and Such (sub title Things to See Part 2)

Kate here, I thought it would be good to write a posting regarding travel to and from the area as well as specific things to do and see in and around the town of Lakeville CT.  Feel free to reference the previous posting about places to stay and things to see.

TRAVEL:
Directions from Logan Airport in Boston:
Logan to Lakeville - the journey takes almost 3 hours, a bummer indeed, but have faith!

Bradley International Airport  -
only 1 & a half hours away, an improvement indeed.

But just 20 minutes away is:

Walter J. Koladza Airport, North Egremont, Massachusetts 01230 at (413) 528-1010

You can charter a plane to this airport or take flying lessons here - not much help to anyone, except for maybe Kevin Ford, yet I have no idea if he even checks the blog or still has his plane.

In Groton CT we have an small airport but I believe it serves only a couple of neighboring states. Their tag line is "A Shore Thing!" so I had to draw attention to that.  I believe they do service to and from Long Island if that should work for anyone - and if it does let me know!

Should anyone be interested in the train, there is Amtrak, however this line is only somewhat convenient for anyone coming from Vermont, Canada, upstate NY and NYC:  Rhinecliff NY train station is only 53 minutes away from Interlaken.

Moving on to fun things do in the Lakeville area since I am now seeing that it will not be terribly easy for a good number of people to show up for the wedding, for this I am sorry but we almost guarantee a good time (I can't lie and make any promises...).  You should still come!!!!   There is going to be a bonfire and s'mores, and badminton, a pool, tennis, golf, ping pong...

Back to the fun things to do:
Lime Rock Park - When actor Paul Newman was a racer this race track was his favorite (who was also a frequent guest of Interlaken).  This park is on CT 112 off of US 7 in Lime Rock Village where you can watch today's top stock-car superstars as they drive around one of America's most beautiful racetracks.  There are regular events with vintage and historic automobile races and the NASCAR season finale is here.  They even have an event on July 23rd and 24th in case you're interested.

Not too far away one can find the Sloane Stanley Museum .  Americana artist & author Eric Sloane collected colonial hand tools when he was writing and illustrating his books on colonial life. His artwork and the hand tools are now in this museum which is on land donated by the Stanley Tool Company.  For those of you that would have trouble mustering up enthusiasm for such a topic there is much more at this museum than only hand tools, there is a replica of an early log cabin and the remains of an iron forge to name a few. Again, this may only be of interest to Kevin Ford and Andrew Bainbridge; however I have no idea if they even read this ridiculous blog.

FYI: Clouds and the sky were a specialty of Eric Sloane's.  The sky-murals at the Smithsonian Institution's Air and Space Museum were painted by Eric Sloane.  He was also commissioned by the Army Air Corps to create paintings of cloud formations with possibly dangerous thunderheads in them that would help the fighter pilots of WWII prepare to navigate through them safely.
